termique vs Royal TSX
Focused SSH manager vs multi-protocol remote tool
The short version.
- SSH, RDP, VNC, web and more in one window
- Shared credentials with folder inheritance
- A generous free tier
- Hosts live in document files you sync yourself
- Credential encryption is set up by hand
- About $50 per seat, plus maintenance for upgrades
- Built for SSH and SFTP
- Sync and end-to-end encrypted credentials out of the box
- $5/mo Pro, every update included
If SSH is most of your remote work, termique is quicker to set up and cheaper to run.
Every row, side by side.
Where the two part ways.
01Focus
- termique
- SSH-first, with a UI built around it.
- Royal TSX
- One surface for many protocols.

SSH-focused vs multi-protocol generalist. Royal TSX's strength is breadth: one application for SSH, RDP, VNC, web consoles, and more. If you manage Windows servers over RDP and Linux servers over SSH in the same workflow, that consolidation has value. Termique is deliberately SSH-focused. That focus means the UI is optimized for SSH workflows - host filtering, session tabs, terminal rendering, AI command assistance - rather than being a shared surface for half a dozen protocols with different interaction models. If SSH is your primary or only remote protocol, a focused tool will consistently outperform a generalist one on the tasks you actually do every day.
02Sync
- termique
- Built in and end-to-end encrypted.
- Royal TSX
- Document files on your own file sync.

Document model vs automatic cloud sync. Royal TSX stores hosts and credentials in document files that you manage manually. Sharing a connection document with a colleague means emailing or syncing a file. Keeping it consistent across machines requires a file sync service as a prerequisite. Termique's cloud sync is built in: create a host on your desktop, and it is available on your laptop within seconds, encrypted end-to-end. The server holds only an AES-GCM ciphertext blob derived from a key that never leaves your device. There are no files to manage, no sync conflicts to resolve, and no third-party file sync service needed.
03Price
- termique
- $5/mo per user, updates included.
- Royal TSX
- About $50 per seat, plus upgrade fees.

Pricing: $50 one-time plus maintenance vs $5/month. Royal TSX Pro is a one-time purchase of approximately $50 per user, which includes a free major version. Subsequent major versions require purchasing an upgrade or a maintenance plan. For individuals, the one-time model can be appealing over a multi-year horizon. For teams, the per-seat cost and upgrade overhead add up. Termique Pro is $5/month per user with no upgrade fees, no version tiers, and all new features included as they ship. For a five-person team, Termique Pro is $25/month versus $250 upfront for Royal TSX Pro seats, with AI, cloud sync, and command audit logs included at the Termique tier that Royal TSX does not offer at any price.
On every device you use.
Royal TSX is the macOS product. Termique's macOS build is native on Apple Silicon and Intel and uses the system Keychain.
Royal TS is a separate application with its own licence. Termique is one app and one account across macOS, Windows, Linux, iOS and Android.
Neither Royal TSX nor Royal TS covers Linux. Termique ships AppImage and .deb builds for x86_64 and arm64.
Moving over from Royal TSX.
- 01Export the SSH connections
Royal TSX documents are .rtsz files and the application can export to CSV. Export, then filter to the SSH entries - the rest stay with Royal TSX.
- 02Collect credentials and keys
Royal TSX shares credential objects across connections, so note which credential each SSH host used. Export keys in OpenSSH format.
- 03Rebuild in Termique
Add the SSH hosts and mirror your folder structure as groups. Enter each credential once; it is AES-GCM encrypted on-device.
Does Termique handle RDP, VNC or database connections?
No. Termique is SSH and SFTP only. Royal TSX is the broader tool and that is the trade-off.
Does Termique have credential inheritance like Royal TSX?
Not as a first-class object model. Hosts are grouped, and credentials attach per host. Royal TSX's shared-credential model is more flexible for large estates.
Is Termique cheaper?
Termique Pro is $5/mo. Royal TSX's paid tier is a per-user licence that costs more, though its free tier may be enough if you have few connections.
Does Termique run on Windows and Linux?
Yes. Royal TSX is macOS, with Royal TS as the separate Windows product - two applications, two licences. Termique is one app on all three.
Is sync end-to-end encrypted?
Yes. The key is derived from your master password on your device; the server stores only ciphertext.
